E-mail from Jack:
I spoke with Ernie a little while ago (he's still at the hospital, but the doctor is expecting him to go home Friday and continue to come back in daily on an out-patient basis) and his white blood cell count was a positive number yesterday (a little over 1) and today it was over 3 - that's over a 100% increase and an indication that the stem cell transplant is taking hold and generating healthy white blood cells.Ernie's in the hospital?
The news don't get no better than that!!!
He was real groggy on the phone and we only talked for a few minutes, said he was real tired. I was planning to go see him in the hospital Saturday, but since he'll be there "out-patient" I told him I'll pass on this weekend and catch him next week.
Things are looking up. Keep him in your prayers.
I admit that I didn't pass on to you that Ernie went back into the hospital last Friday. Candi called and left a message basically saying that it was not a surprise to the doctors because all patients were back in the hospital after the transplant, but Ernie was in such good health at his transplant the doctors agreed to let him go home. He went home for a week, but a fever came up and they readmitted him. In spite of the positive spin, I didn't take this well and didn't pass it on - sorry.Fingers crossed and prayers said.
But the transplant appears to be taking hold and generating the white blood cells he needs and that's all that's important now. This is looking very good.
Keep your fingers crossed and the prayers coming.
